On the 16th August fantastic fundraisers, Ellie, Fin and some of Fin’s colleagues from Brickability took part in Tough Mudder South West, raising an incredible over £7,000 for the Neonatal Unit, here at the RUH. This fantastic amount was a raised jointly through fantastic fundraising and an incredibly generous donation of £3,000 from local business Brickability.
Ellie and Fin were inspired to help after witnessing firsthand the amazing care the unit gave their two daughters, Bonnie and Aurelia when they were born prematurely, just under a year ago. Reflecting on their hospital stay, they described how “Not only did Bonnie and Aurelia receive the best medical care during their 6 weeks at the Bath Neonatal Unit (NNU), but we, as parents, could not have asked for better support and care from all of the staff during such a tough time in our lives.”
They continued “In addition to all of the state of the art technology (incubators, breathing apparatus and monitoring systems to name but a few), babies on the ward receive exemplary round the clock care from all the amazing nurses and doctors, with this relieving some of the stress during what is an extremely worrying time for parents. We also found comfort in the more personal aspects that allow you to feel more like a parent – camp beds to be able to sleep next to your babies, live musical performances in the corridors to lift the spirits, a little library to be able to read babies their first stories and, most importantly, the NNU flats that allow you to stay overnight with your babies before being discharged, with these ensuring the whole family is ready to go home. Without the Bath Neonatal Unit, Bonnie and Aurelia would not be the thriving little girls they are today”.
Pictured below are all the Tough Mudder fundraising team (and their cute new member – for next year?) taking on their challenge last weekend in glorious sunshine in Badminton Park.

Ellie, Fin and everyone at Brickability, thank you for braving the mud to help the Neonatal Unit and other premature babies like Bonnie and Aurelia. We think you’re all extra extraordinary!
