Pulteney Ward is a 30 bedded acute surgical ward, looking after some very ill patients, including a lot of patients who have mental health issues. The ward had no quiet room and was desperate to provide this space for patients and relatives.
Applying for the grant Senior Sister Lucy Butcher said “I feel this is a must have space for any ward and it will be invaluable. Currently people have to have sensitive or bad news given to them in a bay, which gives them no privacy or peace. Also we have patients who need to have conversations with mental health, where privacy is so important.”
£2,000 of RUHX charity funds was granted to transform this space (before image below) into the quiet space so vitally needed.
The room before transformation:

Now complete the space looks so much better and the team using it shared “This is an amazing space for patients and relatives to have some quiet time for whatever reason away from the hustle and bustle of the very busy ward environment. It is used by lots of people from our multi-disciplinary teams to speak to people. We have been desperate to have this for the past 10 years! The photos on the walls are what patients have drawn for us.”
Thank you so much to RUHX supporters for making this transformation happen.
