New improved Wellbeing Garden now open at the RUH

Posted: 22nd May 2024

A new improved Wellbeing Garden space is now open for patients and staff to enjoy and unwind in. It offers a sanctuary for relaxation and fresh air, to take timeout from the pressures of a busy hospital and connect to the environment.

Since February there have been groundworks, new seating, turf laid, new walkways, planting (with more planting to come in Autumn) and wildflower seeding to create a new relaxing environment for all. Just outside the hospitals Lansdown restaurant it’s the perfect place to enjoy fresh air and nature and take a break from the stresses of hospital life.

The project has been a great collaboration – funded by the official RUH Bath trust charity RUHX, supported by NHS Charities Together. And with the Friends of the RUH providing community volunteers to plant the new borders and maintain the gardens in the future.

Access to the wellbeing garden is for staff, patients and visitors. Nickie Jakeman, ED Consultant, who has been the champion and driving force for this project said:

“We believe that we need to rekindle our connection with nature and the sense of wellbeing this provides, and to reinvigorate a sense of community with people and the planet around us. It will undoubtedly have a massively positive impact on our staff, patients and their families.”
