Happy Birthday NHS! It’s the extraordinary staff, like the RUH team, that make the NHS so special. So, to celebrate we’re sharing what some recent RUH patients had to say about the care still happening every day, 77 years after the NHS was formed.
Lizzie and Becky, Children’s outpatients
Lizzie and Becky have consistently been patient and kind with my autistic son Joshua. Today was a major breakthrough as he allowed them to take bloods in less than a minute. It has taken him five years to get to this place (it usually takes hours!). Their gentle and compassionate approach means he now feel safe with them. What amazing nurses! Thank you so much.
Claire Park & nurse, Gynaecology
Thank you so much for being wonderful during my appointment @ 11:20 today. You were both lovely and incredibly nice and considerate and made myself and my wife feel relaxed and cared about.
Zoe and Grace, Urology
Thank you both for the excellent service you provide. You certainly go the extra mile to make what could be an unpleasant or trying procedure quite the opposite. In my opinion, you both are perfect exemplars of how hospital care should be.
Gen Simpson, Fracture Clinic
Gen, you were so lovely when I came back for a review of my knee after a bad fall. You really took the time to listen to not only my knee issues but my general health worries. Thank you for being kind, patient and understanding. The world needs more people like you!
Beth Gribbon, Eye Unit
I would like to thank Beth for her caring manner and professionalism on our visit today.
Susannah Rawlings, Emergency Department
Thank you very much for sorting out my unusual problem. As a diabetic without meds, I would have been left feeling awful for the last week of my holiday in your country.
Dr Knechtli, Haematology
Dr Knechtli, Thank you so much for all your care and attention, for your clear explanations and reassurance. And your outstanding ‘bedside manner’! I appreciate it very much. With very best wishes
Clare, Transitional Care Team, Maternity
Thanks for all your help with showing me how to express my breast milk and the reassurance and encouragement, it really helped me to feel more confident and meant that Layla was able to benefit from the colostrum. Your kindness and patience really made a difference to me and helped me manage with feeding Layla in the first few days, particularly in the middle of the night when I was finding it hard and you supported with bottle feeding Layla while I hand expressed. You are amazing!
Ben, Paediatrics
My daughter was on this ward in March and was readmitted this week. Her memory of the ‘Pokemon man’, who we have learnt is Ben, made her excited to come to hospital and to see him. Last time she was here, Ben wasn’t even her nurse but came to visit her and he told her about Pokemon go, found her some Pokemon figures and talked to her about her Pokemon teddies. Unfortunately, he wasn’t here for this visit, but the fact that Immy remembered him, and it made her not worried to come into the ward, shows the impact he had.
Kristina, Emergency Department
Thank you, Kristina for your kindness in looking after my mother, Theresa Rice, last night. You were so kind and thoughtful. RUH are very lucky to have you! X
Rachel, Medical Assessment Unit
Rachel was very caring, noticing my 80-year-old dad would benefit at 3am from being in a bed rather than just a chair. She moved us to a different area where a bed was available for him to sleep properly. Also sourcing some toast at short notice for him!! So kind ❤️❤️
Ayra, Day Surgery Theatres
Dear Ayra, Thank you for looking after me so well last night. Your compassion means so much! You are definitely an asset to your team and a wonderful blessing to all patients you handle. Your humour and passion gels so well – making every difficult journey of the patients more tolerable. We need more of you in NHS ♥️
Older People’s Unit team. A&E, ward C1 and ward B55 teams
Just a very big thank you for your kindness and enduring patience looking after my father, Mr F Humphreys, at what is a very difficult time for him.
Maddie (Midwife), Maternity
Just wanted to say a huge thank you to Maddie and the student, who was working alongside her, that delivered my baby Layla on 16th June. The labour was a bit of a rush and they supported me and my husband to stay calm and guided us through the birth to get Layla here safely. They were both so kind and talked to me to distract me from some of the pain and their skill and professionalism was outstanding. We can’t thank them enough for taking the best care of us.
Anna O’Kane, Maternity
Thank you, Anna for being so kind and thoughtful during my day assessment today. We both felt at ease and informed throughout, and you made the process far less worrying. Thank you also for finding the consultant so quickly.
Charlotte, Maternity
Thanks for being a great support for so long! We really appreciate your help and guidance, and glad you got to meet Daniel at the end.
Leanne, NICU
Leanne, thank you very much for helping us with our baby. You have been really kind when we moved her to a different room. Thanks for caring for us like your own family members.
Viv, Tintu, Raji and everyone, Pierce Ward
Thank you so much for all your wonderful care. I really appreciate your kindness, compassion, humanity and support during such a difficult time. Your total professionalism shone through. You are all stars, thank you.
All staff, TIA clinic and Radiology Department
My entire experience with the whole TIA clinic and Radiology Department has been phenomenal. Kind, caring and patient staff in all departments. Thank you very much, it made the world of difference to the anxiety of all the tests and appointments.
Dr Luai Marr, Paediatrics
To dear Dr Laui and his wonderful team. Huge thanks for all the fabulous care and support given to our son, Edan, during his stay. We couldn’t be more grateful for your kindness and hard work. Many thanks. Penny and family xx
Danielle and other staff, Breast Care Unit
I went in to see a doctor for a check after a referral – I think her name was Danielle – apparently she is leaving shortly to become a consultant? She was very kind and reassuring and made my nervous state a lot calmer. Also the radiologist, who did my mammogram, and the other nurses in the Breast unit were all amazing.
All staff, Medical Assessment Unit (DAA)
The nursing and healthcare/volunteer staff on the Direct Assessment Unit were fantastic yesterday, 1am-5pm. Their care and understanding was outstanding; they were both supportive and sensitive to my daughter’s needs/requests, resulting in a great outcome and discharge. Thank you.
Fran, Medical Assessment Unit
Thank you, Fran, for the amazing care you gave to Millie. She was really struggling with being in hospital and you made it so much more comfortable for her. She loved seeing Joey the cockapoo. We hope you had a well-deserved holiday Orca watching. Best wishes
Siobhan, Emergency Department
Thank you for your care when I came in with a head injury on Monday. Your kindness and laughter were much appreciated on a very long day.
Kimberley (Staff Nurse), Kidney – Renal
Kimberley, you are nice and a very kind person. The way you took care of us and answered all our questions with patience is absolutely amazing. God Bless You!
Chantelle, NICU
Many thanks for helping us today in NICU. Your kindness means a lot to us. Special thanks for taking care of our baby Inayah Siddique.
May God bless you with a lot of success and happiness.
