Today, the 22nd April, is a year to the day since the first patients walked into the new Dyson Cancer Centre to receive care.
Open each day from 8am-8pm to treat the vast majority of cancer types; the new centre brings together under one roof RUH cancer services including oncology, chemotherapy and anti-cancer treatments and radiotherapy services, a 22-bed inpatient ward with a mix of single rooms and four bed bays, a dedicated pharmacy and our research team and nuclear medicine and physics teams.
After 10+ years of fundraising and 30 months of construction, in its very first year the new centre has already made such a difference to its community of patients. Here’s what they had to say when surveyed during their visits about the new centre and its facilities:
– Patients surveyed rated the new outpatient’s area 4.8 out of 5 and the new radiotherapy area 4.9 out of 5
– 100% of patients agreed (20%) or strongly agreed (80%) that “The outpatients department has a pleasing look that made me feel comfortable.”
– 93% of Staff and 96% of Patients agree with the statement that the DCC and department entrances were easy to find
– 2/3rds of patients at the new centre surveyed shared that they enjoyed the style of the new Dyson Cancer Centre outdoor space and artwork, and that it had a positive effect of them personally.
RUHX are so proud of what you, our amazing supporters, combined to achieve together to help care for our community in the past year, today and in the future. From nurturing artwork, extraordinary Gamma-CT and LINAC equipment, more space and so much more you helped make this new centre extra extraordinary.
