Pride of Britain is a fantastic way of celebrating the nation’s unsung heroes who make a real difference to the lives of others. This snapshot of ordinary people doing extraordinary things really shows what can be achieved when we help each other and work together. And in 2024 it is celebrating its 25th anniversary, in the same silver anniversary year as RUHX.
So, it’s great news to hear that RUHX supporter Gary Cook and his Team has just won the 2024 Pride of Britain West Region award. In recognition of the over £300,000 that he has raised to support cancer care services here at the RUH Bath and at GWH Swindon. Receiving the award Gary said “this award is for all of the Rodney Cook Memorial event team, it’s truly a team effort and everyone who helps, all my mates, do it in their own free time to help the charities we support.”
The Rodney Cook Memorial Rally metal detecting event is in memory of his father, who died from cancer in 2017, and in 2024 alone is expected to raise another £100,000 for charity. People came from all over the world for the event.
Next, Gary’s off to the national Pride of Britain award ceremony at Grosvenor House, London that is hosted by Carole Vorderman and is televised on primetime ITV. Good luck, thank you and enjoy the celebration!
