You may remember in October we launched our Community Partnerships Programme with 13 organisations benefiting from £400k of funds through NHS Charities Together Covid-19 Appeal.
We are delighted to share with you an update from Swindon Carers Centre who are doing an excellent job supporting unpaid carers.
Here is what the team had to say when we recently caught up them to find out how the funding has helped them so far:
“We’re a charity which supports unpaid carers in Swindon, Wiltshire. The generous support from RUHX and NHSCT has enabled us to recruit Becky, our Specialist Mental Health Practitioner who is the friendly, reassuring voice behind our ‘Carers Support Line’; dedicated to offering vital support over the phone to those struggling to cope with their caring responsibilities.
Since October, Becky has provided a listening ear to over 400 carers, helping them to feel more confident, connected and resilient. Including a carer for whom the demands of looking after her husband with dementia had become too overwhelming and was affecting her own mental health. As a result of Becky’s support, the carer is now able to enjoy a break each week from caring and has accessed our groups and activities including our mental health group. The Carer told us: “I am extremely grateful for all the help I’ve received from Swindon Carers Centre; I don’t know what I would have done without this support.”
There are many more Carers struggling to cope, and we are so grateful to the Community Partnerships Programme for making it possible for us to be able to be there for more Unpaid Carers in need of our support”.
Keep up the fantastic work Swindon Carers Centre and a big thank you to NHS Charities Together for making this possible!
