Bath woman, Emilie Giotti is taking part in the Bath Half Marathon to give back to the hospital which saved both hers and her unborn baby’s life after she contracted Covid during pregnancy.
The iconic Bath Half Marathon, held on the 15th March, will welcome thousands of runners, including over 100 raising money for the Royal United Hospitals, Bath.
Emilie was 27 weeks pregnant when she contracted Covid during the height of the global pandemic.
“Living with two autoimmune diseases, the Royal United Hospital had already supported me for many years, but nothing could have prepared me for this. From the moment I arrived on the Helena Ward, I was met with kindness that went far beyond medical care”.
By choosing to run for RUHX, Emilie and her fellow runners will help to support the hospitals to do more for patients, families, staff, and everyone in the local community.
Emilie couldn’t praise the RUH staff who have treated her highly enough commenting:
“As my condition worsened…I was moved to ICU, where the care for both me and [my daughter] Isabelle was nothing short of extraordinary. Through their dedication, skill and determination, I slowly began to improve. Today, Isabelle and I are both thriving and I will always be aware of how incredibly lucky we were. RUHX supports the vital work at the RUH, from staff wellbeing to life saving equipment and this is my chance to give something back to the people who quite literally gave us everything.
The Bath Half Marathon runs through the city centre and RUHX will have staff and fantastic volunteers situated along the route ready to cheer on all the runners taking part.
