A dizzying challenge – Sam’s RUH26 marathon

Posted: 11th February 2026

RUH Bath Accident & Emergency nurse Sam Meaden is taking on a dizzying running challenge at the Royal United Hospitals Bath this April 26th, London Marathon day.

Sam, from Trowbridge, who trained as a nurse at RUH Bath and since qualifying in 2024 works in Accident & Emergency will be running his ‘RUH26’ challenge to raise funds for both the official NHS hospital charity RUHX and Dorothy House hospice who cared for his mother prior to her loss in 2025.

It is a marathon run, and the course is entirely within the RUH Bath grounds.  Twenty-six loops around the perimeter and past the Accident & Emergency department entrance where Sam works and where his colleagues will be cheering him on from.

Sam shared about his challenge:

“I ran the London marathon in 2025 and after not getting in for 2026 I turned my disappointment of not getting in to do it again into the ‘RUH26’. I’m now set to attempt to do a marathon without leaving the RUH grounds. Fully flexing my capacity to make unwise decisions. A loop around the Royal United Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (RUH) will take you just over a mile. Do that 26 times and you have yourself a marathon!

I’m aiming to raise £2,000 to be split between RUHX, the hospital where I work and Dorothy House Hospice. Very recently, after a short battle with cancer my mum was able to pass very peacefully here. The medical and nursing staff here were fantastic with both mum and her family and friends. My mum could not speak highly enough about her short time here – and neither can her people. It is an incredible place which you don’t want to have to be, but grateful you are.”
