300 fundraisers of all ages walked along the beautiful Kennet & Avon canal on Saturday, from Wiltshire to Bath, to raise funds for RUHX
The annual RUHX Walk of Life event took place lat weekend on Saturday 11 May in lovely sunny weather, with the walkers taking on either a marathon 26.2 mile walk from Bishops Cannings or a 10 mile walk from Bradford on Avon all the way into the centre of Bath.
So far, over £38,000 has been raised and we expect the final total to reach around £50,000 in the coming weeks. Every penny raised means the charity can continue to support the RUH to do more for patients and staff, making healthcare ‘extra’ extraordinary for everyone who needs it.
Everyone was greeted at the finish with a festival-style celebration at The Holburne Museum in Bath, featuring performances from local musicians, walkers received big cheers as they crossed the finish line.
Ellie Wilkinson, Events & Community Officer, who organised this event said: “We are so grateful to everyone who took part and went the extra mile, and to friends and family who came along to cheer them on at the finish line. It was the hottest day of the year so far which made the 26.2 or 10 miles even more challenging, but our walkers took it in their stride and brought so much positivity! Whether walking for a loved one, as a thank you for care received at the RUH, to support our local community, or as a way to get active, the funds raised mean we can help our hospitals to do more for everyone in Bath, Wiltshire and beyond. We’d like to say a special thank you to our event sponsors, Savills and Buro Happold, to the incredible team of 34 local volunteers who helped to make the event possible, to all of the local businesses and organisations that supported the event, and to the wonderful musicians who performed at the finish line.”
Registrations for the Walk of Life 2025 will open later this year. To find out more about how to get involved, please email fundraising@ruhx.org.uk.
