On Friday 7th August to Sunday 9th August, RUH Enhanced Care Team staff member Sarah (Team Mario) and her good friend Vicki (Team Luigi) are taking on a 3-day charity trike challenge from Brighton to Weymouth, 150 miles (50 miles each day) in costumes, to raise money for the Paediatric Ward here at the RUH Bath.
They’re fundraising towards the all new De-Escalation Room as a safe, calming and sensory-friendly space for children and young people experiencing mental health crisis.
Sarah shared her reason for ‘Why the Challenge’ with RUHX. “As healthcare staff, I’ve seen first-hand how frightening and overwhelming crisis situations can be for children and their families. This dedicated de-escalation room will provide a peaceful environment where young patients can feel safe, supported and cared for during some of their most difficult moments.
To help raise awareness (and hopefully lots of smiles!), we’ll be completing the challenge dressed as Team Mario & Team Luigi’s on decorated trikes while sharing the full journey across TikTok and social media. Our goal is to raise £2,000 towards this incredible project.”
Vicki added “It’s just such an amazing cause and both my kids suffer with mental health, I’ve seen how bad it can get so if I can help them help just one child, it’s worth it. Sounds cheesy, but it’s true”
It’s happening mid-August with friends and family in a support vehicle (camper van) along with support from sponsors including Spartan Gym in Chippenham that are giving free training membership and nutrition plans and hotels en route that are giving free / discounted rooms.
Every donation — big or small — will help make a real difference to children and families who need support the most. And they plan to be fundraising en route in pubs etc.
