Christmas Appeal 2025

down arrow
When a child is in crisis on our ward, they need more than medicine – they need a moment of calm.

Whether you’re a parent, carer, grandparent, uncle, aunt, or someone who has been through stressful times, you’ll know how powerful a moment of quiet in a calm space can be. Sometimes, it only takes a few quiet minutes, a gentle environment, and the reassurance that you’re not alone. Having worked as a nurse for over 30 years alongside children and young people, I understand the uncertainty and worry that accompany any hospital visit, regardless of age. For too many of our young patients, the reality is that they need extra comfort, reassurance, or simply a quiet space to regulate their emotions.

Help raise £50,000 to create a sanctuary for children in crisis.

This Christmas, we’re supporting the RUH to create a sanctuary for our young patients. We’re asking for your help to create a very special space: a de-escalation room — a calm, quiet room that will include soft furnishings, lowstimulation lighting, and sensory-friendly features. A place where children and young people can feel safe when everything around them feels too loud, too scary, and out of their control.

We urgently need to raise £50,000. Will you help us make this sanctuary a reality?

It’s more than a de-escalation room.

We know how powerful this kind of space can be, and we need your help to create it. By supporting this project;

  • You’re creating a sanctuary for young patients where they can begin to work through overwhelming emotions without risk of harming themselves or others.
  • You’re giving parents and carers a space where they can support their child or young person in a calm, private environment.
  • You’re helping to minimise the need for medical or restrictive interventions, allowing me
    and my team to offer more personalised care and support, helping our young patients to
    manage their emotions.
