When a child is in crisis on our ward, they need more than medicine – they need a moment of calm.

Whether you’re a parent, carer, grandparent, uncle, aunt, or someone who has been through stressful times, you’ll know how powerful a moment of quiet in a calm space can be. Sometimes, it only takes a few quiet minutes, a gentle environment, and the reassurance that you’re not alone. Having worked as a nurse for over 30 years alongside children and young people, I understand the uncertainty and worry that accompany any hospital visit, regardless of age. For too many of our young patients, the reality is that they need extra comfort, reassurance, or simply a quiet space to regulate their emotions.
