Making a difference

Why our work is essential

We’re dedicated to putting the ‘extra’ in extraordinary care for everyone who needs it – whether that means funding innovative new technologies or collaborating with groups tackling health inequalities.

We’re supporting our staff to do what they do best, taking care of the people who take care of you. We’re helping more people to live healthier, happier lives, reducing the pressure on our hospitals by empowering positive change. And we’re working closely with community partners to ensure a positive future for Bath and beyond.

Dyson Cancer Centre

Dyson Cancer Centre

With your support, we’ve raised £10million towards our brand new Dyson Cancer Centre. The centre will help transform the care we provide for patients, their families and carers by building a nurturing and therapeutic environment, reducing stress and anxiety by promoting health and wellbeing.

NICU enhancement

Thanks to you we have been able to ensure we can keep parents and babies together in NICU by greatly improving the current facilities. Upgrades have included 4 permanent pull down beds at the cot side, 8 curtain fittings to ensure all 8 beds have privacy, and a parent shower room

Robotic Surgery

Quality and precision of surgery is one of the most important factors in improving care for patients with cancer. Bringing this state-of-the-art technology to the RUH has improved cancer-specific survival rates, cut down operating times and seen patients get home to their families quicker.

Wellbeing Garden

Our community eco garden provides on-site serenity to our staff. This idyllic outdoor sanctuary will introduce well-deserved headspace for staff away from indoor pressures, and offer visitors a calming and soothing surrounding that encourages reflection and mindfulness.

Critical Care Pendants

We’re celebrating extraordinary new intensive care equipment for the hour of need - thanks to a collaboration between RUHX and the Friends of the RUH. We've supplied new bed pendants that improve access to patients, house the new Clinical Information System (CIS) and deliver medical equipment, gasses and all electricity from a single point.

New HIPEC Machine

HIPEC significantly improves survival for patients with advanced ovarian cancer compared to other recent advances in ovarian cancer surgery and thanks to the Medlock Charitable Trust we have purchased a machine adding to the full range of gynaecological oncology services the RUH Provides. The first operation using the new machine took place this September and the surgeon was Jonathan Frost (pictured), Consultant Gynaecological Oncologist and Specialty Cancer Lead for Gynaecological Oncology.

NHS Charities Together Community Partnerships

Grants are being made to 13 charities and community projects across our region. Breast Unit Extension

Breast Unit Extension

Our £1 million project to build an extension to our Breast Unit is one of our crowning achievements in 2022. Funded entirely by donations from people just like you, we were able to transform the patient and staff experience.

Cardiovascular research

Super Rehab aims to halt the progression of heart disease, help patients feel better, and potentially turn the clock back and reverse the disease. Helping to alleviate the need for ongoing drugs or even surgery.
RNHRD-&-Brownsword-Therapies

RNHRD & Brownsword Therapies Centre

The Royal National Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases (RNHRD) opened in 2019, thanks to the support of the community. We were able to raise £2 million towards the outpatient centre, designed with staff and patients in mind.
